A legal disclaimer

Ecqo runs entirely in your browser. We do not operate any servers, collect any personal data, or share anything with third parties. Your emails and workspace data never leave your device.

1. Who We Are

Ecqo Extension ("Ecqo", "we", "our") is a Chrome browser extension that provides a unified workspace manager and Gmail triage panel. The extension is published on the Chrome Web Store and operates entirely client-side — there is no Ecqo backend server of any kind.

2. Data We Access

To deliver its features, Ecqo requests the following permissions:

Gmail (read & modify) — to list your unread emails, retrieve email content, send replies, and mark messages as read. Access is granted through Google's OAuth 2.0 flow using your browser's built-in chrome.identity API.
Google account info (email, name, profile picture) — to display your account in the extension header and verify that you are signed in.
Browser tabs — to save and restore named tab workspaces (URLs only; page content is never read).
Browser windows — to open floating new-email notification cards at the bottom-right of your screen.

3. How Data Is Stored

All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs:

chrome.storage.local — your saved workspaces, dark-mode preference, last active tab, and your cached Google profile (name, email, avatar). This data persists across browser restarts.
chrome.storage.session — a short-lived email cache (up to 15 messages) that is cleared when your browser session ends. This exists solely to make the popup open instantly.

No data is written to any external database, file server, or cloud storage operated by Ecqo.

4. Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not transmit your emails, email content, or attachments anywhere.
We do not collect analytics, crash reports, or usage telemetry.
We do not use advertising networks or tracking pixels.
We do not store your Google OAuth token beyond the browser session managed by Chrome.
We do not have access to your Google account password.

5. Third-Party Services

Ecqo communicates directly with Google's APIs on your behalf:

Gmail API (gmail.googleapis.com) — to read, send, and modify email.
Google OAuth2 UserInfo API (googleapis.com/oauth2/v2/userinfo) — to retrieve your name and profile picture.

These requests are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Ecqo does not control Google's data practices. No other third-party services are contacted.

6. Permissions Justification

identity — required to authenticate with Google without a backend server.
storage — required to persist workspaces and user preferences locally.
tabs — required to read open tab URLs when saving a workspace and to restore tabs when switching workspaces.
alarms — required to poll Gmail every 2 minutes in the background without keeping the service worker permanently alive.
notifications / windows — required to display floating new-email notification cards.
system.display — required to position notification cards in the bottom-right corner of your screen.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Because all data is stored locally in your browser, you are always in control:

Sign out from inside the extension to clear your cached profile and email cache immediately.
Remove the extension from Chrome (chrome://extensions) to delete all locally stored data, including saved workspaces.
Revoke access at any time from your Google Account permissions page (myaccount.google.com/permissions).

8. Children's Privacy

Ecqo is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and publish the new version to the Chrome Web Store listing. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
